The Federal Trade Commission previously linked these area codes to the scam: 268, 284, 473, 664, 649, 767, 809, 829, 849 and 876. The Better Business Bureau says scammers have posted phony customer support numbers online for other companies, too. Scams such as this are not limited to Netflix. He said his call to the impostor number was answered immediately, which he now also realizes should have tipped him off, as that’s rare these days in the customer service world. He didn’t realize there was a problem until the next morning, when his wife tried to use the computer and it was loaded with porn. The caller, who lives near Cincinnati, told me he gave the rep remote access and paid $30 for what he thought was a repair.
